Action for Stammering Children (ASC) is a UK charity which aims for a society where children and young people who stammer have the same opportunities and quality of life as their peers.
Our goal is to ensure that as many of the 150,000 children and young people across the UK who stammer have access to effective services and support to help them meet the challenges they face.
Based in The Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children, the charity is a strong supporter, commissioning services that are not funded by the NHS.
This includes specialist assessments and therapies for children and young people that stammer, a designated helpline, appropriate research, and the training of speech and language therapists across the country.
Why did we choose this charity?
Michael Derrig-Adams has been with Kung Fu School since he was 7 years old and now he is nearly 21.
He attended the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children for help with his stammer, with his time with at the Michael Palin Centre, they were able to help him with his speech and gain a new found confidence in not letting his stammer hold him back. Michael has created a fantastic powerful and emotional documentary about his stammer ‘My Stammer is Me’ to bring awareness to people who stammer.
This has inspired us to help this small amazing charity who gives a voice back to young people in the U.K.

The students of School of Kung Fu showed fantastic Black Belt Excellence not only in training their Wing Chun Kung Fu for the event but also for their fundraising, we are extremely proud of our students.

School of Kung Fu Croydon believe you should say no to bullies and want all of our students to be proud and confident and not to let bullies win so when Kidscape approached us to help them there was only one answer, yes! Kidscape and School of Kung Fu believe that all children should be able to grow up in a world free from bullying and abuse. School of Kung Fu students put all their effort into training for the charity event and raised the £7’500 using their kung fu skills and determination by kicking through wooden boards, breaking them in half, helping to raise much needed funding and awareness of the very good work that Kidscape does.
Kidscape’s mission is to ensure that children live in a safe nurturing environment. By providing training, support and advise to children, parents, schools and those in professional contact with children, enabling them to gain knowledge and develop the confidence and skills to challenge abuse and bullying in all forms.
School of Kung Fu though its martial arts training teach their students to recognise a dangerous situation before it happens.
